ND&A McBurneys - JUST !!

NI International players from the Mens 'A', Mens 'B', Seniors and Ladies were well represented in a competition run by Carrick & District Pool League. The SKC sponsored Summer Pool Challenge, with a total prize fund of £500, took part in Whitehead Glasgow Rangers SC and was full of drama, excitement, and went right down to the wire. The single frame format to Blackball Rules will certainly have done all the players going to Selsey the world of good.

In Group 'A', Carrick Daddies managed by Darren Whiteside (pictured top right receiving a cheque from SKC) went out with 2 points from a possible 9. Larne Legends (pictured bottom right) under big Bill McIlroy, with 7/9 topped the group, and in a dramatic last frame decider, Carrick Cowboys under Robert Hawkins beat Joe Patton's Belfast Boys 8-6 to join Larne in the Semis on 4/9. Belfast 3/9.

In Group 'B', Northern Ireland 'A 'Team Captain Darren Sterrett's ND&A McBurneys (pictured centre right) took 9/9 to top the group, and in a tight finish for runner up they were joined by Hugh Regan's young ND&A Wanderers at the expense of Debby Walker's Monkstown Masters and Ballymena Gatherups managed by Dessie Cooper.

The Larne Legends were first into the Final, relieved to scrape past the Wanderers by a 5-4 margin. And in a tension filled 2nd semi, ND&A McBurneys had to dig really deep to come from 4-3 down for a 5-4 win against Carrick Cowboys.

The Final was just as dramatic, going one way then the other. And again McBurney's were 4-3 down, but again they kept their bottle best, with Captain Darren Sterrett sinking the final black of the night to give his side a 5-4 victory.

Thanks to all the players from all areas for supporting our competition and to SKC for sponsoring the event.
