Juniors Match

Our Junior Section travelled to the Q-Sport Academy in Fintona, County Tyrone on Sunday 4th July, for a get together practice match against Tyrone Pool Association 8-Ball Pool Team.

The match was played to Blackball Rules. The NIPA are recognised by Sport NI as the governing body for Pool in the province and Blackball Rules are played worldwide at International Competitions under the banner of the World Pool-Billiards Association. Tyrone Pool Association is recognised as the biggest County in the North for Junior Pool and has recently fielded 3 teams in the last few years in the All Ireland Inter County Team Championships organised by the Irish Pool Association (World Rules). Tyrone were crowned Champions just recently in May 2010 a fantastic achievement.

Everyone present, Players and Team Leaders alike enjoyed the days Pool with Tyrone running out 14-10 winners, coming back impressively from 5-0 down on their first occasion playing to Blackball Rules. The match was played over 3 sessions of 8 and the session scores were as follows (Tyrone first) 3-5, 5-3, 6-2. Final Result 14-10. A return match will be hosted by the NIPA in the near future, date and venue to be confirmed. Well done to Matthew Campbell of Tyrone who won all 3 of his frames. Best for NI were Lee McIlreavey, William Irvine and Lee Wright, all on 2/3.

Credit must go to Trevor Harte, the NIPA's newly elected Chairman for his initial efforts along with Juniors Manager John McIlreavy in trying to get Junior Pool up and running again in NI after a good few years in the doldrums.
