It's a big CONGRATULATIONS to Mary Jo McCourt, who has just become the new 2011 Northern Ireland Ladies Champion. The 24 year old from Carnlough on the County Antrim Coast had a tough route to the Final where she beat Alex Babb of Newtownards by 5-1. Well done to Alex too for reaching the Final, beating current Northern Ireland Champion Pamela Hamilton on her way. Mary won £150 plus trophies and Alex £80 plus trophies. The 2 Semi Finalists Pamela Hamilton and Lynsey Gardner both received £40 each.
It's a dream come true for Mary Jo, who plays regularly in the Town & Country Pool League. Mary has not been playing all that long on the Northern Ireland Ladies circuit and the progress she has made in that short space of time is remarkable.The victory guarantees her an automatic spot on the Northern Ireland Team travelling to the European Masters in Bridlington, Yorkshire, April 2011.
Ladies Pool in the Province is moving forward, as showed by the large turnout of 29 girls, with a few more unable to come due to the adverse weather.
